Dirt jumping video

Here's a video I made of me and a couple buddies hitting the jumps on a track I'm building. The kid riding my warrior has got some sick skills and he's only 15. He races a KX250F down in Oklahoma and he's got some potential. Check it out... Dirt Jumpin in Wisconsin

RE: CLUSTER INOP

My dad has the same atv, had the same part replaced before. COULD NOT find it on the web other than through dealers. You might get lucky though, otherwise head to the nearest suzuki dealer and bring your checkbook. If you dried it out thouroughly and it still doesn't work, it might not ever work again. P.S. You shouldn't post your full street address on your profile, that could cause all sorts of non-atv related problems.

RE: So I jetted my Warrior...

:C Problem Solved! I reinstalled the stock large round 145 with the cup and My warrior is a screamin demon again. I did this last night and hit the jumps a few times and actually the problem had worsened. I parked it for the night and took it apart when I got home from work and there was a small piece of debri in the cup that probably clogged the main jet. Cleaned it out and put it back together and she ran like a dream - hit the jumps about twenty times and it didn't bog once. Looking back I see that I stumbled on to a problem that Dyno-jet needs to fix. Their kit contains the wrong diameter jets and their kit's directions say to remove the plastic cup and discard it. Thanks for the help Jon, I can't tell you how much I appreciate having knowledgable people like you in my corner, don't know what I'd do without your advice! Thanks again -Dan

Thanks, I'm gonna go give it a shot.

RE: So I jetted my Warrior...

Yup, looks like the kit included small round jets(6mm diameter) and what I need is the large round(8mm diameter), that's what the stock size was. I only went up one size in jet, 145 to a 146. Do you think I would be able to run the stock jet with the K&N air filter and lid removed for now untill I can get the jets I need? I'm planning on getting a new exhaust soon anyway so I'll probably need a 147.5 or 148 anyway so I might as well order a few of them. From what I can tell there is hardly any difference between the 145 and 146 anyway but I am new at this so I'm not sure what to do. Thanks again, Dan

RE: So I jetted my Warrior...

....and removed the plastic cup on the main jet... This might be your trouble. That little plastic cup is designed to keep the main jet imersed in fuel. Try replacing that and see if it cures the problem. A similar problem happens with 2 stroke motocross bikes as the carb bounces around a lot thus sloshing the fuel. Also check to see if your carb seems fairly solidly mounted in the intake and airbox boots, there should be some movement but not excessive. I am hesitant to look to jetting (pilot jet) as you say it idles fine and it is sporatic. I thought that might have been the problem but dynojet's main jet is smaller in diameter than the stock - the new jet isn't large enough to hold the cup in place, it actually is smaller than the inside hole of the cup. Here's the cup with the stock 145 main: http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/Danarkee/100_2198.jpg The jet actually is the exact size of the hole in the cup, fitting snug inside but still able to move through it. Here's a dynojet main jet set inside the cup, alot smaller than the stock jet(outside diameter) http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/Danarkee/100_2199.jpg http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/Danarkee/100_2200.jpg After seeing how even the stock 145 main moves through the cup having a snug fit it makes me wonder how the cup stays in place upsidedown in the bowl. Do you think it just snaps into place or does the main jet hold it in place? If so, I'm going to need to use a washer or something. Oh yeah, the carb itself is pretty snug - it moves a little bit sideways, maybe 1/4 inch of play but is very secure. It doesn't move front to back much because of the way it is bolted to the manifold.

So I jetted my Warrior...

...and installed a K&N air filter with an adaptor and prefilter and removed the airbox lid. I got the kit from Quadworks, actually got a real sweet deal on it at Monsterpowersports.net. I followed the stage 2 instructions supplied by dynojet: Yamaha warrior jetting instructions My altitude is at or around 1200 feet pretty much everywhere I ride with stock exhaust so I installed the new needle on groove #4 as instructed and installed the DJ146 as specified for my altitude and my exhaust and removed the plastic cup on the main jet. I turned the fuel mixture screw all the way in clockwise till seated and then back out exactly two and one half turns. I pretty much did everything as the instructions said to and when I finished my quad fired up perfectly, ran perfectly at all ranges of RPMs and even ran without a stutter on over 200 miles of trails over the holiday weekend. I checked the plug (brand new plug at jet installation) after I put it all back together and rode it up and down the driveway a few times and it didn't appear to be too rich nor too lean, and I was pressed for time having just finishing installation Friday morning before heading out for the weekend. Like I said, it ran perfectly and for the most part it still does, the power gain is very obvious and I was happy with the upgrade untill tonight when I was hitting some new tabletops I just built/rebuilt. The quad is idling great, accelerating great, and has good power throughout all range of throttle. Now here's my issue - It's running fine untill I'm in mid air about to nose down to land on the slope of my table tops. Takeoff is great, midair is fine as I let off the gas, but as I prepare for landing and get back on the throttle before touchdown it just bogs, like it is not getting any fuel. It only does it when my quad is nose down - while riding wheelies and heading up steep hills and such there is no bog. I thought at first that maybe it was low on gas so I filled up and hit the jumps again and it still bogged out. I'm confused as to where to even start to correct this problem, it never happened with the stock jet and filter and it is happening at a really bad time. It really slows me down while landing the first jump in a series, where as I land I up-shift to third to get the required speed to clear the next one. So where do I start guys? Could it be a needle adjustment, fuel mixture, or pilot jet-by the way, my kit did not include any pilot jets:( I am really stumped and frustrated because I only trail ride every once in a while, the rest of my riding is jumping on my home made offroad playground. Sorry for the long post and thank in advance for your support. -Dan

Rim Size?

I have stock tires and rims on my quad. The tires are 22x10x9. I'm looking at buying some new ones. Do they have to be *x10x9 to fit or will any x9 tire fit? I'm confused and I don't want to buy a tire that is too wide for my rims, especially if I order them online. Thanks, -Dan

RE: Bleeding brakes, Raptor 350

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm only going to be down here for a few more days and the Raptor is using oil really fast and is not downshifting properly. It belongs to a 15 year old and I don't think it was properly maintained in the hot summer heat. I put in a quart of oil the other day and two hours later it was gone. I'm not going to spend my whole vacation working on his quad when there's plenty of bass to be caught. Thanks anyways guys.

Bleeding brakes, Raptor 350

I'm down in OK so I'm riding a beat up 350 Raptor. The front brakes do not work, there's no pressure at all. I filled the res and there's still nothing. How do you bleed them? Is there a step by step method? I'm on vacvation so I have limited resources and no manual. Any help would be greatly apreciated because I just don't feel safe on it without front brakes!

Videos: having fun in the snow/mud/water hole

Spring time in Wisconsin means very sloppy conditions with the melting snow becoming water which in turn creates what we in the ATV world know and love: Mud! We found this frozen mud hole and drove over it breaking the ice, creating a slushy muddy wet hole that we enjoyed for a few hours. Me on the Warrior, followed by two 660 Grizzlys. It was pretty thick at first but towards the end it was just good ol' hydro-planing madness. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/NfHoa247up8/default.jpg My buddy TC enjoyed doing donuts on my Warrior in the hole. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/jq_k0zpTZco/default.jpg Over in the Tech Corner thread we were just talking about safety wire and glue on grips. TC almost fell off of the machine into the cold slop when the right grip slipped off! He would have been one cold wet muddy dude had he bailed! I'll be securing those grips ASAP! http://i.ytimg.com/vi/PCO48R0t0wM/default.jpg TC, who seems to be the star of my little show, had previously peeled out with his TTR slinging mud at Chris and Jake. This was his payback. Looks like I've got a liquid cooled YFM350X! http://i.ytimg.com/vi/heMJ2Ho0n7k/default.jpg Chris loves the mud. He's an Army boy and he's been sweatin it out in over 130+ degrees over in Iraq, he's on leave and this is one sweet way to cool off. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/D5v-OVzhzjY/default.jpg I know it's nothing too spectacular, just a couple of guys having fun on some Yamahas in the fields of Wisconsin. Hope y'all enjoyed it. Keep in mind that with the warming days and the melting snow, that hole's gonna get muddier every day, and I'll be sure to update with more vids. And if it aint muddy enough, there's numerous piles of black dirt around that hole and I'll just mix some more in with the skidster till it's hog heaven. I'll bring the real camera out too instead of the cell phones.

RE: '02 Yamaha Warrior, Clutch lever replacement

I'm not familiar with safety wire, how does it work? Anyone use grip glue? I'm leaning towards the glue if they slip. I used soapy water to put them on like the instructions said and it hasn't dried yet, so I'll find out soon if I need wire or glue.

RE: '02 Yamaha Warrior, Clutch lever replacement

The Turner lever is a nice for the low price (about $30 at Motosport.com) but I don't think it pulls any easier than stock, it's actually about the same as before. The AOF is a sweet feature and the bars are a lot less cluttered with the parking brake cable and wires gone. Maybe you should look into an easy-pull lever? I really like the grips, they are soft enough to hold on to without gloves which I sometimes hate to wear in the summer, I'm just hoping at this point that they don't slip because I didn't use any adhesive. Well, I gotta get out there and put some more mud on the fenders! Ride on! -Dan

RE: looking for Warrior exhaust baffle

...Does it look like this::: Mine looked like that, and from the pic I'd say you might have a hard time getting the spark arrestor out of there. If I remember correctly, they are removable for cleaning, and the manual suggests you do so periodically. I tried for a very long time to remove mine and I couldn't, I don't know how but it ended up broken (maybe from bottoming out on a wheelie or something) and I just cut the end off of the muffler. It sounds pretty sweet now but the forestry guys wouldn't like it. You might be better off getting a new exhaust like mentioned above, from my experience the stock spark arrestors are a pain.

RE: '02 Yamaha Warrior, Clutch lever replacement

I got the new parts installed, everything went good. Parking brake before: http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/Danarkee/0322081604.jpg Parking brake removed with block off plate: http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/Danarkee/0322081610.jpg New lever and I slapped on some new grips: http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/Danarkee/0322081856.jpg Everything went well except a friend of mine was helping and broke one of the bolts on the clutch lever but I had some OEM bolts laying around and they are stronger anyway. The block off plate has a rubber o-ring gasket on it so I didn't have to use silicone, and it had a space in the center for the pin so that really didn't need to be filed off either but I'm sure that some brands may not be built the same way. The plate is made by Rock. I am very pleased with everything and I am excited to customize the Warrior further. Thanks for the support guys. -Dan

RE: '02 Yamaha Warrior, Clutch lever replacement

Well guys, I removed the parking brake assembly, disconnected the cable at the handle bars and just pulled it right out. I filed the pin down like Oldbutslow said and it's ready for the plate. Does anyone know if a gasket is needed when installing a block off plate? There was a gasket on the parking brake assembly but I couldn't salvage it. I removed the wires from the lever assembly, the one for the parking brake rev limiter didn't have to be looped, I just snipped them off and capped 'em under the hood, The clutch-starter wire did have to be looped, but was rather easy to do. Under the headlight assembly the two wires already had connectors on them, one male, one female. I just unplugged them and plugged them back into each other, it was very simple, like it was made to be bypassed. The parts will be here tomorrow, I can't wait. I know it's not much but I'm getting into it and I'm thankful for the support here!

RE: '02 Yamaha Warrior, Clutch lever replacement

Thanks for your replies guys, I really apreciate it. I ordered a Turner AOF clutch lever, a brake block off plate, and some new grips. I know it's not much but it's the beginning of what is already becoming an obsession. I'm still curious as to the wiring going into the original lever assembly. I think one of them is for the clutch/starter and the other is for the parking brake(it engages a rev limiter). Do any of you guys have a manual that shows where the two wires go to? I admire your machine Oldbutslow. I don't race but I ride a lot of trails in northern Wisconsin and they are mostly rocky and twisty woods riding with a lot of old rail road beds. I also have a few dirt jumps that I make with the skidster, mostly table tops. The trails I ride are rocky, so I don't want to lose any ground clearance, and the stock tires seem to keep me just high enough off of the ground as long as I'm careful, but I'm gonna need a swing arm skid plate. I'd have to agree with you guys that the Warrior is great in the woods. It's a bit on the heavy side but I'm so used to the machine that it's not really a problem. I'm looking at buying a Team Alba Performance Pipe Kit, it seems to be a good value and it will fit into my budget. I'm curious as to how well those mesh air box screens work, do they really keep the mud and water out? Some of the trails are pretty wet up north here and sometimes there's no going around the water holes. If I was to put the lid back on would that require jet adjustments? Once again I thank you all for your support, and I'll keep you posted on my progress, and more than likely have more questions.

RE: '02 Yamaha Warrior, Clutch lever replacement

Oldbutslow, I like what you did with the starter button on the side, did you use a three way toggle for the lights on the other side? Is your header stock? I'm going to upgrade my exhaust and I don't want to buy a different header if I don't have to. Did you remove the OEM airbox? Are your axles OEM or do you use extensions? My clutch cable loosens up real soon after adjustment, I usually have it adjusted along with other routine maintenance at the dealer, do I adjust that right at the perch? Sorry for all of the questions, I really don't know much about wrenching on the quad, I don't have much time to do that, whatever time I have I spend on the machine but now it's catching up. I really want to keep this quad going and I'm gonna make it fast, I gotta at least try to keep up with a YFZ, and I know I can outride him, I just want the machine to be able to tolerate the abuse! Thanks for all of your replies everyone, I really apreciate it! Oh yeah, what did you do with your Kill switch?
